Quick start, workbook map, assumptions, sources, checks, compatibility, usage note, and issue-report details travel with the file.

07 · Privacy

No real company records, personal data, local paths, hidden connections, macros, or external links in public core templates.

08 · Release

Available means the workbook exists, required checks pass, screenshots come from the file, and limitations are visible.

Workbook appearance system

Color communicates both brand hierarchy and cell behavior.

Brand navy, cobalt, teal, and amber structure the workbook. Finance-semantic font colors stay separate so users can audit what is editable, calculated, linked, or exceptional.

Cell semantics

  • Blue font: editable hardcodes and approved inputs.
  • Black font: formulas within the same sheet.
  • Green font: references to another worksheet.
  • Red: external workbook link or failed control only.

Questions & answers

What users should know before adapting a finance model.

Practical use · QA · privacy · limits
What is the TDAT Financial Model Library?

It is a growing collection of reusable Excel models for planning, reporting, valuation, cash, transactions, risk, projects, and personal decisions. Each model is designed to be understandable, adaptable, and reviewable—not a black box.

Who are these models for?

The library is built for finance analysts, FP&A teams, transaction professionals, treasury and risk users, founders, SME owners, and learners who want a governed starting point. Every card names the intended roles and decision.

What do Starter, Practitioner, and Advanced mean?

Starter models require basic Excel and finance knowledge. Practitioner models assume familiarity with statements, operating drivers, and review workflows. Advanced models may include integrated financing, transaction, risk, or project-finance mechanics and should receive specialist review.

What comes with each available model?

An available release includes a macro-free .xlsx file, synthetic worked data, in-workbook guidance, assumptions, visible checks, version information, limitations, compatibility notes, and a public model page. Roadmap cards do not pretend those assets exist.

Which cells should I edit?

Edit blue-font hardcodes and clearly labeled control cells. Pale amber indicates a scenario or switch. Black formulas calculate within a sheet, green formulas reference another sheet, and red is reserved for a failure or an external link. Review the Checks sheet after every material change.

Can I change the currency, units, fiscal year, or forecast horizon?

Use the control and assumptions areas where supported. Currency and unit labels can be changed without rewriting the core logic. Extending the timeline requires copying the final forecast formula pattern, preserving references and formats, then confirming all checks again.

Can I add products, entities, departments, or business units?

Yes when the model structure supports modular expansion. Add detail in source, driver, or schedule blocks—not by inserting hardcodes into statement outputs. Reconcile the new dimension back to the original totals and keep the public checks visible.

Is the sample data real?

No. Public downloads use synthetic or clearly illustrative values unless a model page explicitly states that evidence is sanitized and approved for public use. Never interpret example outputs as measured company performance.

Can I use my company data?

You may use an authorized downloaded copy. Keep the company version inside the company’s approved environment, remove identifiers before sharing externally, and inspect comments, hidden sheets, formulas, links, connections, paths, and document properties before distribution.

Do the models use macros, external links, add-ins, or circular references?

Core public templates are designed without macros, external workbook links, add-in dependencies, or unexplained circular references. Any future exception must be disclosed on the card, model page, Cover sheet, and Checks sheet.

Will the files work in Google Sheets or LibreOffice?

The supported Excel version is shown on each model page. Basic formulas may transfer, but formatting, data validation, comments, charts, named ranges, or financial functions can behave differently. Unless explicitly tested, Google Sheets and LibreOffice are marked not verified.

Why does a three-statement model not balance after I edit it?

Start with the Checks sheet. Common causes are sign errors, incomplete opening balances, a working-capital line mapped twice, missing debt movements, incorrect cash-flow signs, retained-earnings logic, or a new row that was added to one statement but not its supporting schedule.

What do PASS, WARN, and FAIL mean?

PASS means the stated control is within its published tolerance. WARN requires review but may not break the model. FAIL means a core relationship is outside tolerance and the output should not be relied upon. PASS is not a guarantee that assumptions or accounting treatment fit every business.

How are versions managed?

Each model has a stable ID, route, and canonical filename. Semantic versions live inside the workbook, registry, and changelog: a major version breaks structure or inputs, a minor version adds compatible capability, and a patch fixes formulas, wording, formatting, or QA without changing the core contract.

Can I use a template at work or for a client?

You may copy and adapt the current public template for learning, interview cases, personal analysis, or internal business planning. Do not resell or redistribute an unchanged copy as your own product. You remain responsible for sources, assumptions, professional review, and suitability.

Are these models financial, accounting, tax, risk, or investment advice?

No. They are educational and analytical templates. They do not replace company policy, accounting standards, licensed investment advice, regulated risk methodology, legal advice, tax advice, lender requirements, or an appropriate subject-matter review.

How do I report an issue or request a model?

Use the contact action below. For an issue, include the model ID, version, affected sheet or cell, and a public-safe description. Do not email confidential data, company workbooks, credentials, or identifiable records.
